In Which I Write A Novel...or Half of One

At 10:30 last night, I hurtled past the 50,000 word mark on The Unfinished Rooms, making me officially a NaNoWriMo winner! I'll be celebrating this weekend, but I still estimate the actual book is only about half-complete. I'm still moving into the second act at around 51,000, and going strong.

Anyway, I do hope to have a first draft of the novel finished by January, but now that I'm not under a 2,000 word-a-day pressure, I'll have some time to get back to...writing, because that's what I do. I'll start working on some new articles to post here (I'd like to continue my series on the evolutionary precursors of the horror tale), and I'd love any feedback any of you can provide about what kind of topics you'd like to see me research and/or cover.

Then there are a few short stories that have been clamoring to be released from my head. Oh, and there's that script whose first 40 pages I wrote this summer, before I started losing steam...

I'm aware that my prose here is loose and slapdash compared to my usual style, and I admit it's a bit embarrassing. But it's not scholarly writing, so hopefully I can be forgiven for being giddily excited. I'm thrilled at the work I've completed so far, and I'm excited about the increasing likelihood of having something, even a short story, printed in the near future.

This blog will soon be oriented more toward information and updates about completing (and eventually purchasing) my novel, but don't worry; I'll try to keep my feet on the ground and stay true to my culturally analytical roots. As always, I'm open to ideas. I want to thank all of you for your comments and encouragement. Watch this space; exciting things will be transpiring before long!
